There’s a lot of options, whether it’s Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or Instagram, it’s up to you on which network you want to be on. You could be on all of them, but if you’re in all of them you’re not going to spend enough time to make all your profiles amazing and performing.

You don’t want to be on all the platforms, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and do a mediocre job. It’s better to not be on them than it is to do a mediocre job. Because doing a mediocre job will not get, where you want to reach.

Which platform is right for you?

Social media, five six-year ago was way easier to leverage to get traffic from Nowadays their algorithms are so strict, because there is so much competition, they are looking for the cream of the crop. In other words, if you are not the best of the best, you are not going to do well. So is very important, how you build your social media marketing strategy for 2020

So you need to pick the right social network. The way you pick the social network is to look up in what space you are in. If you’re in b2b, the chances are LinkedIn is going to be the best social network for you. Even, Twitter is also another good social network for b2b. But LinkedIn typically is better. If you’re in b2c, Facebook does really well. Instagram and YouTube also do really well. YouTube works for both b2b and b2c.

One more thing you also have to look at is, what content type do you like creating. Are you someone who’s really good with videos? If so, you probably want to start with YouTube or LinkedIn. Facebook is much more competitive. In YouTube, you can get the longevity even if you don’t have an audience and you don’t have a subscriber pool. You can get more traffic over time because on YouTube, people perform searchers all day for videos and your videos can continually get views if you rank higher. In Facebook people don’t really search. If you’re going after an older demographic, Facebook is amazing. If you’re targeting younger demographic, Instagram and Snapchat are amazing.

So, by now you have a rough idea of which social network to go after. If you’re still unsure, just leave a comment and tell me your business. I’ll try to answer the question for you so that you can use the right social network from day one.

Where to start with social media?

Once you decided the right social platform, the second step, you need to do is start creating content. At starting, you might feel like, I have no budget or don’t have a huge friendliest to star or I have very few following. But the catch is, no one’s going to follow if you don’t have any content. So start creating content.

To starts with, first create a business profile or page on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

  • You need to complete everything in your profile. Write in detail about your business, contact email, a nice image with professional-looking logo etc.
  • A description of who you are or your company. Product and services you deal with. Mention contact number and proper address. Talk about the benefits that people are going to experience from following you or subscribing to your page.

If you don’t complete your profile, you’re not giving people a reason to follow.

Once you set the basic profile, the next thing is to regular update of content, so that you can start getting follower for your page. If you’re not sure what content to create, you need to check out your competition. We all have competitors, for example, if you’re in a new business space like Uber and you are revolutionizing the taxi industry. In this case, your competition would be the taxi industry. So you look at what is my competition doing, what are the problems in traditional taxi system, you start highlighting them through in your page. You may look at your closest competitors, what they are doing, see what content is doing for well for them and what contents not. That will give your idea of what you should do more and more and what you shouldn’t.

How to create content for social media marketing?

If you don’t know how to create content, you may start with as simple as status updates. You can record a video of your own, describing what you do and what you can do for your client. You may share some links that you think your audience may like. If you’re not sure what links to share, you can go to and type in any keywords from your industry. It’ll show you all the popular articles that will show you what people like on Facebook, on Twitter and all the other social sites. Which will give you an idea of what kind of content will resonate with that social network and what doesn’t?

Establishing the connection- social media marketing strategy for 2020

Now that you creating content the next thing you need to do is build a connection. Here important point is that you need to build a connection with people. In social platform, just because you’re on a computer, it doesn’t mean that you’re not connecting with humans. Make sure you start following all the people that you know. By following them you’re engaging, you’re building connections. You can just invite them to like you on your Facebook page or follow you on twitter.

When you are building a connection with someone you don’t know, you need to do to more work to build that connection. Here’s how you are going to do this-  you go and look for all the people in your space. You start putting status updates, post, if they have questions on your post, respond to them, help them out. If you have articles which you think are valuable, you can repost, re-share them.

Even, for example, in another channels or other business fan pages, which is related to your industry, even if they are from your competitors and they’re asking questions you can respond to them and help them out. That’s how you build a connection. When you’re posting on your own page, if someone responds with a question or a comment you should acknowledge that.  Thank them for leaving a comment. Respond when they have questions, that show that you are engaged.

Over time as you keep on responding, what you’ll see is, a lot of people will come back over to your site. They’ll follow you. If you’ll engage deeply with them, they’ll become a loyal diehard follower.

How to build your social media marketing strategy for 2020 -Building an engaging audience?

It’s not just about growing your follower and having a thousand followers or ten thousand followers. If they are not engaged with your page, they will be no use for your business. So, here is the tip, don’t go for follower count. It’s all about having valuable connections, personal ones. Because if your first hundred fans or followers aren’t that engaged with you, all these social networks have it in their algorithms, where they’re looking at a percentage.

If you have a million fans but only a thousand are engaged, they’re like likely to rate it as a terrible engagement rate and shouldn’t show your content to anyone, because no one likes it. But if you have a hundred followers and every single one likes it and shares it, then the system will rank this content as amazing. They will rate your content high and help to go viral. So it’s not about having the most amount of fans but it’s about having the most amount of engaged fans.

When to introduce your business?

The final and important thing in building your social media marketing strategy for 2020 is not to push people to your business from day one. Within three months or six months, you can start talking about your business slowly. You can mention your website; you can do simple things like sharing a link. But you don’t do that from day one. Why would you want to promote your business when no one’s following you? First, you need to build a pool of like-minded audience with engaging post and shares.

If you start promoting your business from the day one, it will be like, you go to a random stranger on the street and you said, “Hey, my name is John, I know that you buy toilet paper because everyone uses toilet paper, would you like to buy my toilet paper?”  They’re going to feel like, are you crazy? who are you?  We don’t want to buy anything?

So the basic rule is to build a connection. No one is going to buy from you until you build that relationship. So don’t promote your business until they are there to six months. The more you wait, is better the result. People wait up to nine months or to a year.  But if you’re doing advertising, you can do this from day one and you can promote your business instantly.  But if you’re trying to build up everything organically, you can’t promote your business from day one.
